Life Outside the Chateau

When we say independent living, we mean truly independent living. Our residents have the freedom to come and go from campus wherever and whenever they please--and it’s a good thing, because Cape Girardeau is a bustling town with lots to do! Our residents love exploring all that the Cape Girardeau area has to offer.

Shopping & Antiques

Close to our campus, we have a mall and outlet stores like Kohl’s, Target, JCPenney, Macy’s, TJ Maxx, Walmart and many other staples. Downtown, there are rows and rows of unique boutique storefronts with homewares and antiques all in a walkable stretch with fresh new sidewalks and streets (as of May 2017!).

We have the perfect blend of traditional favorites--like Red Lobster, Olive Garden, and Panera--mixed with uniquely Cape eateries. In our town, we have Cajun cuisine, authentic Italian, Mexican, Thai and even hearty Irish fare. Just outside of city limits there are several wineries for both the wine fans and the self-appointed sommeliers.

Farmers’ Market

Our residents are able to enjoy not one, but two farmers’ markets. Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings, patrons from all over the area gather to socialize and purchase fresh fruit, flowers and homemade treats.

Walking Trails and Parks

There is no shortage of things to do in the great outdoors in Cape Girardeau. Despite a four-season climate, there are still active folks outside nearly all year long. We have multiple walking trails that wind their way through the town, many parks for family visits or ponds to read a nice book near, and an indoor conservation center.

Cape Girardeau is a hub of rich artwork. There are sculpture series rotating around the city throughout the year; several art galleries open to the public that feature both local and national artists; and the visual and performing arts find a home at The River Campus, bringing in some of the most culturally diverse and engaging theatrical experiences in the area. We are frequent visitors to the River Campus.

Cape Girardeau has rich history, and plenty of places to explore it. Museums, landmarks and historic sites are around nearly every corner of this town. And we’re making more history every day!

The Mighty Mississippi

Rich history, an expansive River Wall with intricate murals to enjoy, and many downtown eateries closeby make the Mississippi River a popular gathering spot.
